EU gives visa free access to Ukrainians
« on: 12:44 06-Apr-2017 »
TODAY the EU Parliament voted to give visa free access into the EU. Due to start in June 2017 (after approval by the Council of Ministers)
As usual the UK and Ireland are not included as they are not part of Schengen.
The new system will allow Ukrainians to enter the EU for travel/holidays for 3 months without the need to go through the long hassle of getting a visa in advance as per the current system.

This is interesting, as the EU is considering REMOVING visa free travel to the EU for Americans. :)

I escaped. Now in Sunny Cyprus

To be perfectly honest, EU is considering to remove visa free travel to US because US does not provide visa free travel to all EU member state...
It seems normal that there are no second rate membership in EU

Good news, though :)
Still, mind the limitations, like a biometric passport and some more. Make sure you are aware and up-tp-date while showing up at the Schengen border ;)

Other than typical tourism, who will take advantage of this new open door?

prostitution of course comes to mind.

Does Ukraine have a easy source of Drugs that might now flow into the EU, perhaps up through Odessa, or maybe they flow from EU to Ukraine?

Parts of the EU are still considered EuroTrash by the Americans.

I think the hookers will be among the first to freelance.

a) Go to France to pick lemons?

b) Or sell xxxy?

No startup costs.  No work permit required.  Brain surgeon's salary.  Get caught?  Free ticket home.  I agree that the higher rate of HIV / STDs will be a problem.

When I was traveling to Ukraine for the first time years ago, my hotels in Dubai and Turkey were flooded with Russian and Ukrainian prostitutes late at night.  Nice hotels, but they ran this side business.  The little general said 'tanks but no tanks.'

Well I think the hope is to improve conditions to the point that people don't feel compelled to debase themselves to make a living. If there is no other option, some honest work for 10x what a young person could make at home is not the worst thing in the world.

I guess that is a moot point with salaries for military service or UN peacekeeper service, etc.

A side benefit might be an increase in flights and some tour operators opening up new destinations. Cheaper vacations to better locations than current choices.

Maybe I misunderstand: THis change I thought only allowed Ukraine's to travel visa free, not work?

Which is why I raised the question speculating black market enterprises.

Yeah travel is how I understand it also, but I fear that will be abused and many will simply not return hoping to find a job under the table. Higher function EU nations will not stand for it, and in a year we will start seeing a rise in deportations from Europe back to Ukraine as more Ukrainians get caught.

Are you serious, the EU mindset is able to withstand bombs, bullets, machete and truck attacks, but you think a off-the-books fruit picker from Ukraine will set them to action?

Yeah, it is easier to pick off the low profile easy target white trash than it is to stand up to someone with bombs, bullets, machetes and wayward trucks.
