Any recommended ENT doctor in Lviv?
« on: 21:31 16-Aug-2019 »
Hello, my wife and I are currently in Lviv. She has been diagnosed with Otitis Externa. We went to the Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital this morning, where a ENT doctor examined her very quickly and wrote down a prescription. We went to a pharmacy and bought the medicines required, one of which is are cantibiotic ear drops.

The ear drops did work to numb the pain for a couple of hours, but then she is in extreme pain again as the ear seems to be greatly inflamed. It says on the instruction to take the cantabiotic 3 to 4 times within 24 hours, well she has already taken the drops 4 times and there is another 10 hours to go before the 24 hours are up.

She is in great pain and I am now wondering whether to just take her to a clinic or a hospital. Can anyone recommend an ENT doctor in Lviv? I only want to take her to a competent doctor. Any recomendations? Should I take her to a doctor or make her just go through the pain and continue to take the medication. She seems to be in great pain and is really upset.

Any sound advice will really be appreciated.

I empathise with your beloved. I have suffered from this in the past but thankfully, possibly not within the last 7 or 8 years.

I always visited my doctor when such attacks occurred. As with your wife, I was given antibiotics BUT in tablet form. There was no offer of a painkiller despite my asking for something. As you say, the pain can be excruciating to the point where in one instance, my doctor referred me to a hospital ENT specialist who simply advised me to take paracetamol or ibuprofen.

One point - keep an eye on your wife to ensure she makes progress. Otitis externa MUST be treated and should be taken seriously by the medical profession.

I am sorry I cannot offer any recommendations. I would if I could but, YES, take your wife to the clinic urgently.

I did a quick goggle and found this:

LOR Lviv - Diseases of the ear, throat and nose at 75 Grasshopper Street - tram №2, stop ?ул. Zheleznyak

Thanks for your reply, it has been about 50 hours since she started to experience extreme pain and I am starting to get very concerned. She is ok for short spells after taking the pain killer, but after that wears off, she starts to experience the excruciating pain again, which is most of the time.

I think that if she is still feeling the same pain tomorrow morning, then I will definitely take her to a private clinic.

Thanks again for your reply and your concern mate.

I wonder how this member got on with treatment for his wife? Funny how you are left in the dark as to whether they have discovered a helpful ENT doctor.

He might have his hands full with the situation, which pushes us down the priority list some.  If she has a nasty infection it could take time to knock it down.

Hopefully we'll get a report soon.

Sorry I didn't give you a reply earlier, but my wife was in great pain for the first four days. Thankfully, she is feeling much better now, although she has still not fully recovered. In the end, we went to the Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital. We were directed to a building which dealt with ENT cases. The ENT doctor on our first visit, examined my wife and he gave us a prescription. So we bought the recommended medicines. We basically bought specific ear drops and some pain killers.

My wife was in agony for long periods for the first four days, but on the fifth day, she no longer had extreme pain and the swelling had gone down significantly. However, her ear still felt blocked and she couldn't hear too well out of it either. She also still had a slight pain. So we paid another visit to the ENT section of the hospital and this time, a different ENT doctor dealt with her. He was very reassuring and he cleaned out her ear. So she is feeling much better now, thank god, but we will continue to take the medication for the next few days as requested by the doctor. Apparently it takes about 10 days to fully recover from Otitis Externa after taking the prescribed medication.

Thanks again for your concern and sorry for my belated reply. I have just been busy trying to get her better and keeping her family up to date with her situation.
