A Russian election thread
« on: 15:26 03-Jan-2012 »
As undoubtedly the Russian elections, both in how they happen and any result, will have a direct impact on Ukraine in 2012, I thought I would open a Russian election thread.

It also gives me an excuse to post the below video which I though was very funny:

Выборы президента России 2012 - Прямая трансляция

Possibly a poor OP for what could become a very serious thread, but it it has to start somewhere and it may as well begin in a light-hearted manner.

It will take a lot to topple this power vertical:

The Russian punk rock group "Pussy Riot" staged an impromtu concert at Red Square, not bad actually.  However, they are clearly not well brought up young ladies.  They are wearig clothes, as they are Russian feminists, not Ukrainian ones.  They even wear masks. Yes they were arrested. This video is currently gone viral:

They were arrested a few weeks ago for the same thing but had a much larger audience as they performed during one of the organised protests, although not part of the organised entertainment.

Ah, but it makes a difference that they braved Red Square and shouted their anthem into the lion's mouth, this time.  Of course the live audience will be smaller at Red Square, which has been off limits to authorized protests.  Anyway, the Red Square video is the one that has gone viral, globally.

Here's a rather spooky election advertisement just emailed to me by the lad in Moscow:

For those of you who think it is easy being President of Russia, have a go at this on-line game and see how many years you last:
